This privacy policy is provided and maintained by Rebel Tip Limited, a company incorporated in the United Kingdom with company number 15215271, whose registered address is 6b Delta Bank Road, Metro Riverside Park, Gateshead, England, NE11 9DJ (“we” or “us”).

Rebel Tip is registered as a controller with the Information Commissioner’s Office and is subject to UK, and other, applicable data protection rules.

The purpose of this policy

This privacy policy is intended to provide users of Rebel Tip’s products and services, and other relevant stakeholders, with information and transparency on Rebel Tip’s handling and processing of personal data.

Under UK data protection rules there are legal responsibilities for the collection, use, protection and sharing of your personal data when you visit and interact with the Rebel Tip  and its website www.rebeltip.com. As part of our business providing the Rebel Tip service, we collect basic personal details for Rebel Tip account holders.

Who this policy applies to

This privacy policy applies to the personal data that we collect and use in relation to people who register for, and use, the Rebel Tip website.

What is personal data and how it is collected

We collect personal data when you register on the site to use our products and services. We may collect and process different types of personal data for different purposes:

  • Identity: full name; data of birth, nationality, registered address. Information for identification and verification (Know Your Customer “KYC”) and any other personal data you may provide at registration;
  • Financial data: bank account details for bank transfers from your account;
  • Transaction data: details about payments you have received and transfers from your account;
  • Profile data: account username and password, profile picture or avatar, contacts, role, feedback on surveys and content of any messaging using our messaging services on the site;
  • Behavioural data: data relating to browsing activity or interaction with our communications obtained via cookies or other similar technologies and information about your sessions;
  • Technical data: browser type, IP address and any other unique numbers assigned to the operation of the account; and
  • Marketing and Communications data: marketing preferences and service communication preferences.

We will not collect any personal data from you that we do not need in order to provide the services we have agreed to provide you with or otherwise to fulfil legal requirements placed upon us.

When you create an account on our platform and agree to our terms and conditions, a contract is formed between you and us. To carry out our obligations under that contract we must process the information you give us. Also through certain actions when otherwise there is no contractual relationship between us, such as when you browse our website or ask us to provide you more information about our business, you provide your consent to us to process information that may be personal data.

When you withdraw funds from the Rebel Tip account into your bank account, we are required to verify the information that is provided at registration. This verification check is required for the purposes of conducting know your customer due diligence checks and the proper control of risks associated with anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing. This check should be processed automatically, and in some instances, we may require official documents which confirm your identity (e.g. a passport) and your residential address.

Rebel Tip does not operate the associated bank transfer service, which is instead provided by a third-party payment service provider and they may collect personal data about you separately when you use their services.

If you have given us explicit permission to do so, we may from time to time pass your name and contact information to selected associates whom we consider may provide services or products you would find useful. We continue to process your information on this basis until you withdraw your consent or it can be reasonably assumed that your  consent no longer exists.

Sources of personal data

We only collect and use personal data that you provide to us directly when you register on the site. We do not collect personal data about you from third-parties unless you use the site in an unauthorised manner. We may receive information from this party payment service providers regarding anti-money laundering checks.

If you do not provide personal data required

Where we need to collect personal data by law, or under the terms of a contract we have with you, and  you fail to provide that data when requested, we may not be able to perform that contract. In that case, we may have to stop providing our services to you. If so, we will notify you of this at the time, where it is lawful for us to do so.

How your Information is used

We use your personal data to fulfil our contract with you, provide you with our services, meet our legal obligations, fulfil our own legitimate interests, protect your vital interests and where necessary for the public interest and to keep your account working. This includes:

  • Account set up and management: to create your Rebel Tip account and to enable you to use the service, to load and to access, manage and cash-out funds to your bank account and to review transactions and download statements;
  • Essential service information: to contact you regarding your account and to provide you with essential services, including communications, e.g. suspicious activity on your account, billing and responding to enquiries;
  • Service alerts: to notify you of relevant account activity, e.g. balance information or if something is wrong;
  • Service controls: to make sure that the service is used in a lawful and legitimate manner in accordance with our user terms and conditions;
  • Service enhancements: to analyse and understand how you use Rebel Tip so we can make it better;
  • Customer services: to provide you with customer services. We may keep a record of your communications to respond to your query and to improve our service to you. Your communication may be recorded for training or quality assurance purposes;
  • Verification checks: to verify your identity and to identify, prevent, detect and/or tackle financial crime, including fraud and anti-money laundering checks and checks for other unauthorised conduct. We may also access, use and store any identity verification or other checks made and take any other steps reasonably required for these purposes;
  • Service use: to analyse and understand your use of the service so we can provide a safe, reliable and convenient experience;
  • Display use: we will use your personal data to make sure content is presented on your device in the most effective manner;
  • Legal obligations: to allow us to access, read, preserve and disclose information that we reasonably believe is necessary to comply with law or a court order and to enforce or apply our conditions of use. To protect the rights, property and/or safety of the business, our employees, our customers or others; and
  • Our obligations: to carry out our obligations to you or any other users of the service, to perform any services you have requested and to allow you to participate in interactive features of the service when you choose to do so.

The personal data we collect from you will be processed by us and our authorised third-parties including Paynt (https://paynt.com), the card Schemes and third party payment processing service providers who need the information to ensure a proper operation and secure and lawful processes.  We can provide you with a list of our providers who will have access to your personal data on request. Please be aware that your personal data may be stored on a cloud – based system whose servers are located within the UK and/or European Union. We take all reasonable steps to ensure that your personal data is processed and transferred securely.

Your personal data-related rights

Under applicable data protection rules, you have the following rights in relation to your personal data:

  • You have a right to access the personal data we hold, obtain a copy and obtain details on how your personal data is processed within one month of a request;
  • If any personal data we hold is incorrect, you can request this is rectified without undue delay. To update your personal data if it is wrong, we may ask you to provide supporting documents where reasonably necessary;
  • You can request that we remove any unnecessary information about you. (We are however required to retain some information to comply with financial and other regulations);
  • You can ask us to stop processing your data where it is inaccurate, our processing is unlawful, we no longer need the personal data or you have objected to us processing your personal data in our interest. When you do this, you will be unable to access any of the Rebel Tip services;
  • You have the right to receive your personal data in a machine-readable format so that it can be used by another service provider;
  • You can object to automated decision-making which may significantly affect you; and
  • You have the right to make a complaint to the Information Commissioner’s Office which enforces data protection laws in the United Kingdom.

How long we keep personal data

We will generally keep your personal data for a period of 6 years from the date on which our relationship with you ends. After this period the personal data will be disposed of securely if it is no longer required for the lawful purpose(s) for which it was  obtained.

How do we keep your information secure?

We understand the importance of keeping your personal data secure. We will take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect against unauthorised or unlawful processing,  accidental loss or destruction of, or damage to personal data. A summary of measures we take to protect your personal data is provided below:

  • Using industry standard security technology and procedures to protect your information;
  • High-security password protection on internal systems;
  • Encryption of our services using SSL (Secure Sockets Layer);
  • Training of our employees on data protection and information security;
  • Continual review of our policies and procedures in response to advances in technology and best practice;
  • App access password protection;
  • Limiting access to your data;
  • Measures to ensure access to our proprietary systems is limited to approved persons to undertake their job; and

Unsubscribing from services

You may opt-out from some of the communications we send you. Where we process your personal data with your consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time.

 Essential service communications; we may communicate with you about important activity which has taken place on your account, for example, to alert you about suspicious transactions or problems with your account. You cannot opt-out of these communications.

Usage/Notifications alerts; we may send you alerts regarding your account usage, for example when a tip is loaded.  These notifications are designed to keep you informed about important account activity. You are able to control these alerts although we will recommend that you continue to keep them activated.

Marketing; You have the right to ask us not to process your personal data for marketing purposes. If you have previously consented to marketing emails, but do not wish to receive marketing communications,  then please send an email to saywhat@rebeltip.com

You can unsubscribe from marketing emails by using the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any marketing emails we send.

We will need 5 working days to process these requests in most cases but please allow up to 2 weeks  to take account of pre-prepared mailing lists.
